There's a tiny hint of potential romance in the future but mainly it's Garrison figuring out his life and finding homes for kitties. Seeing those kitties settle in and change families for the better.

It was cute in the end. Jan 12, June rated it liked it Recommends it for: feel good cat lovers' romance. Shelves: christmas , cat , adult , death , grandparents , feel-good. This is hard for me to rate and should really be a 3. When I first picked it up I had a hard time getting in to it and set it down. When I picked it up to finish since it was overdue. My bookmark had gotten put back in the wrong place, but I was drawn into the story and then went back to reread the book from the beginning. Garrison has been sent home after 9 years of building wells in Uganda.

He's having trouble finding a job after recovering from malaria, when he receives a call that his grandmother has passed. He finds himself trying to follow her wishes of finding good homes for her 6 cats while dealing with his cat allergies, a pretty girl who can't believe that he won't let her adopt a cat because she doesn't meet his grandmother's requirements This was a quick read, but the story was too over the top for my liking.

I like that it took place in Vancouver at Christmas. The humans were okay, and some of their relationships were interesting. The romance felt rushed, but there is a happy ending. I didn't like the cats. I think it's because there were too many of them. Jan 26, Melissa rated it liked it. Mixed feelings. Just an okay story. The story has potential, it just never went into much detail. Jun 25, Massanutten Regional Library rated it it was amazing Shelves: fiction , animals , available-from-mrl , reviewed-by-patrons , christmas.

Susan, North River patron, June , 5 stars: If you love cats and the struggle with the human condition you will enjoy this book. Jan 05, Juliana Kulak rated it liked it. Dec 27, Carrie rated it really liked it. This was a cute story. Harry reminded me so much of our Maine Coon, Shadoe, who we lost two years ago right before Christmas. They really are amazing cats! Apr 28, Nora St Laurent rated it really liked it. What makes this book extra special is the fact it evolves around cats. Cats are fun, mysterious, and have such different personalities! Garrison Brown had meant to visit his grandmother more when he returned from Uganda but with several Dr.

Appointments for his malaria and looking for a job; things got crazy. Now she was gone! Her dying wish was for him to find good homes for her 6 cats. That seemed easy enough until he got the list of requirements these adoptive families had to meet. The cats could only be placed with an approved family 2.

The approved adoptive family must have resided in the neighborhood for at least a year — none of her cats would be placed in a transient homes. The list went on and on… Garrison realized that these cats were like her children. But this list seemed unreal, and impossible to do! If anything was amiss the cats would be removed. She had done so much for him! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

The opinions I have expressed are my own. Nov 18, Narita rated it it was amazing. I like nothing better during the winter holidays to curl up with a good Christmas story. It makes everything extra cozy and special.

So much for waiting till December! The precious kitty on the front of the cover drew me into reading it right away! Garrison Brown had been working in Uganda for the past 9 years digging wells to help the poor. He is forced to return home due to health problems. Not long after he arrives and just 2 weeks before Christmas, he is contacted that his grandmother has passed way.

She meant the world to him. Upon meeting with the attorney he finds she has left everything to him, including her six cherished cats. Before the estate can be settled, he is to find all of them good homes. Which should be easy, except his grandmother left some very eccentric, detailed instructions about what homes they could go to. It was almost as if he was adopting out children! This glitch in the will greatly complicates his duty. The guidelines seem impossible, but he loved her so much that he will do whatever it takes to carry out her last wishes.

He is forced to stay in the house with his charges, not only to care for them but also carry out his objective of placing them with the right families. With lots of sneezing and allergy medication, he soldiers forward in his task. Through this he becomes familiar with the house he grew up in and his old neighborhood.

He meets a beautiful young woman named Cara that has fallen in love one of the cats the one that Garrison is becoming attached to. This causes a bit of a wrinkle in the new friendship. As the story unfolds Garrison is faced with many sticky situations, some very sad and some very humorous. It seems every tactic he tries backfires, yet one by one, in unexpected ways the cats find their forever homes.

Instead of hurrying through his task and moving on, Garrison finds himself connecting with his roots, his hometown, and falling in love. I once again enjoyed Ms. It was very easy to get into the characters and experience their feelings and situations. It was also a story of faith in unusual circumstances. I will probably read this book again next year. Hopefully I can wait until December, but this book would be great to read any time of year.

Now I want to read all of Ms.

He felt his face flushing as Cara opened the door. Wearing a garnet-colored knit dress and with her dark hair pinned up, she looked even prettier than he remembered.

Suddenly he wished he'd thought to bring a hostess gift. Like a cat. I enjoyed getting to know Garrison and his inherited collection of cats… and wondered how he would end up placing adult cats within the strict requirements Grandma had dictated—and the lawyer enforced. The cats all had personalities of their own, and requirements to what type of home they should go to. Children or not?

Singles or not? Garrison had a lot of decisions to make, and suffering from allergies to cats and a phobia of them, he has a lot of uncomfortable moments, too. Available in ebook or hardcover. Nov 23, Mason rated it it was amazing. After returning from a nine year missionary trip to Uganda and a bout with malaria, Garrison Brown feels guilty for not visiting his grandmother more when he learns she has died.

Meeting with her attorney, Garrison discovers his grandmother has an unusual request for him — find homes for her six cats. But there are some strict guidelines for placing the cats. To make matters worse, Garrison is allergic to cats. The process of placing the cats takes Garrison on his own journey reconnecting with friends in his old neighborhood. Along the way Garrison also discovers new things about his grandmother and himself. The author quickly pulls readers in with this inspiring story.

She blends family, faith and caring with bits of humor and a touch of romance for a well-balanced story. The characters are realistic, likable and well-developed. The setting is warm and inviting. The Christmas element enhances the story adding another layer to hold readers captive. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely. Dec 21, Vanessa rated it really liked it Shelves: animals , christian , romance , cats. Hart rated it really liked it Shelves: christmas. Like telling the truth and persevering even when a situation looked like it was hopeless. In doing so, he meets a variety of people, overcomes fears, and learns more about his grandmother, as well as himself. As a cat-lover, and owner of a Maine Coon, pictured on the cover I connected to so much in this story.

The author shows these traits and infuses the story with just the right amounts of humor, grace, and depth. The Christmas Cat is a cheery read, with lots of heart and Christmas cheer. A great gift for cat-lovers, as well as those who just enjoy lighthearted, feel-good quick reads. The options I have expressed are my own. Come he does, however, visiting the forest animals first, and, finding the little cat, decides that the two brothers will have a very special gift this year A heartwarming tale, one guaranteed to appeal to young animal lovers, who will appreciate the happy and not altogether unexpected ending, The Christmas Cat was written by Efner Tudor Holmes, the daughter of acclaimed children's artist Tasha Tudor, who is the illustrator here.

I thought her depiction of Santa Claus, seen here as a young, blond-haired and bearded man, was quite interesting. Altogether, a sweet little holiday tale, one I would recommend to young cat lovers, and to fans of Tasha Tudor.

Please know that I've kept in mind that this book is recommended for ages The problem is that it's hard for a children's classic to become a children's classic to someone when they read it as an adult.
